I've been thinking about my writing habits and the types of characters I write, and I've come to a couple of realizations.
1. I kind of really stink at characters that are complete asses. Ask me to play a douchebag guy and he'll end up baking cookies for his friends eventually. I feel like a lot of mine have this inherent need to be nice. Even my Slytherin girls, who were supposed to be kind of snotty end up on the nice side.
2. I don't think I'm good at uppercrust society people, unless I'm playing them as a sort of parody character. Like Persephone and her whole marriage and everything with Prior at BL. Or Prince Charles at Fair, who I should probably try to write something for at some point.
3. I really like ships. This isn't to say that I'm automatically going to have my characters jumping into somebody's trousers at the first sign of attention, but it's pretty likely that mine will end up in some sort of relationship at some point.
I suppose I kind of feel like a lot of my characters follow the same sort of archetypes and that all of my characters are exactly the same. Or that I write in such a way that it's painfully obvious that I'm the writer behind every single one of my characters.
But then again, maybe I am just too critical.

Question! Because my mom had me thinking about it today, and I'm curious. What is your favorite Christmas (or Winter/holiday!) song? And is there any particular reason why it's your favorite?
Personally, I have to admit that mine is probably Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. I think for me it's because when I was in London two years ago, it was literally the week before Christmas and I heard that song on the radio all the time and it just reminds me of the holidays in Europe- it was a lot of fun for me and I just love all of the Christmas fairs and the holiday spirit and all of that- I wish we had more of that sort of thing down here (or at least near my house!).

Not too shabby! Today I've made steak and potatoes and corn for lunch and it turned out pretty delicious! I made up a garlic marinade using a little lemon juice and some of the Salt Grass steakhouse seasoning- it's a nice different flavor from the steaks we've had in a while.
Everything else has been okay. Yesterday was kinda strange, but ended on a pretty good note. And I had a chocolate banana milkshake with Bailey's and it was sooooooo good. I might make me another one tonight. Thanksgiving is coming up- I only have class on Monday and on Tuesday I'll make my signature pecan pie (my family claims it's the best they've ever had but idk. But hey- if they like it, then awesome!) and Wednesday I have a dentist appointment. Whoop de doo!
And yes! I'm going to finish my lunch and then study for tomorrow's Italian test. :)

Today I need to be more productive than I have this week. My plan? Finish Italian homework, find breakfast, do laundry, library, CVS, lunch at Filipiniana (this amazing little Filipino restaurant), and home to read. And to read/write as much as I can!

UDallas, you suck. You really really suck. Apparently I can't get a Texshare card because I'm not a graduate student and I really just want to check out some stuff from UNT so I can work on this project!

So the remainder of yesterday was very unproductive. I should have gotten ahead on my reading and instead I totally sat and stared at the computer screen for most of the day. I'm going to say that's okay, since I had exams first thing in the morning and was pretty braindead afterward. I need to go in early this morning and speak to my advisor's assistant about everything else I need for graduating, go into the library to see about getting a TexShare library card, stop by the career services office to schedule an appointment for career counseling, and...hopefully I can visit with my friend before her class and maybe get ahead on some of my reading. I feel like such a slacker this week after all of last week's productivity. There's also a few errands I would love to run at some point but idk when yet.
Internet-wise, I need to email a few people for plot type things and see about maybe getting some of the threads I have planned going, I want to tl;dr on my characters at some point soon, finish a couple of fics that I have left to do, andddddd that may be all for now.
But for now, I want a shower, then some tea.

OH MY GOD I PASSED MY SENIOR EXAMS AND NOW I AM FLAILING SO HARD.
It's one less thing for me to worry about, at least, when it comes to the end of this semester. I still have two huge project/paper things to work on but at least now I don't have to worry about comps. I need to pass my Shoah project, since I rather bombed the midterm and need to pass to pass the class, but I can do that.
Today has definitely taken a turn for the better :D

I also retook comps today. I'm not sure how I feel about them. But we'll see! Fingers crossed I did well enough to pass them this time :)
Okay, I need a plan for today. Lunch, then reading, and maybe some writing and stuff. I'll probably write it all out later!

I just keep telling myself that today is going to be a good day. It needs to be. I need it to be.
It's cold outside; the first really cold day we've had so far- I've actually pulled out my scarf and gloves and everything. It's lovely, even if it's a bit of a shock after it being near the eighties all last week. I even have cocoa today, which ended up a bit of a fail when I made it this morning- the milk made a mess in the microwave and then I burned my tongue on my first sip. I really wish I had a milk frother/steamer. It would be lovely.
I'm nearly nearly caught up on the 100 prompts meme that I've had up since..forever ago. September or so? Idk. It's been a neat little challenge for myself, as I've never been much of a fic writer- and these are more narratives than fic, probably but they've been fun.
And my bff is apping Ollie's little brother at ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) 91mod and I'm so excited! Ollie likes to do his big brother thing and all that jazz.
Comps tomorrow. I'm feeling a little better than I have been, but that might not be saying all too much.
Also, I'm really missing Edinburgh right now.

Three old memes, because miz_thang88 made me think of it. And I have some new characters since I last did these!
01. Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal pseudocanon.
02. Give me a pairing or character and a color (or prompt), and I'll give you a sentence.
03. Give me one of my characters and one of yours (or you know, as many as you want), and I'll tell you how they end up together and what their first-born is like, even if they are unqualified to have children. I'll probably even give a PB- if I can find one!

Went ahead and split them up since I write so much at ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/community.gif) theheartyearns. Today has been fairly unproductive so far; I'm a bit off from not sleeping well last night. Yesterday was a pretty pathetic day word-count wise, but oh well. I might try to fic some more later but we'll see.
I made burgers today and they were delicious. I have one more packed up for later andddddd yes. Also, I need to do more threading at my games, sooooooo if anybody wants anything with Bailey/Ava/Morag/Joanna/Oliver then please please please let me know!

I'm over 30,000 words for rpwrimo so far and I'm not sure if I want to continue keeping track. I haven't decided yet.
I'm feeling a bit blah today- I thought I'd stay up late last night and drink and generally enjoy myself but ended up going to bed early, which caused me to be up at six this morning. I've been somewhat productive, I suppose; I did get my resume mostly updated last night--it looks rather pathetic, to be honest, but I've spent much of the last four years concentrating on school and not working. And yet I still only have a 2.5GPA. :| I could do so much better at a public university, but instead I went to UD where I pretty much feel like an idiot every day. But it's nearly over and I think I may be able to bring my GPA up a little more with the classes I'm taking this semester.
I'm feeling a bit foolish about half my characters at the moment; I don't know that I'm liking what I've been doing with them. And yeah, maybe it's overly critical of me. I need to update Ollie later today after I find out what happened with Quidditch stuff, and I'll probably post a thread for Bailey's birthday party. Maybe I'll fic, but I don't know yet- it depends on how other things go.
As for school stuff, I just need to read the Shoah stuff and finish this paper and study accounting things. Comps on Tuesday. And I need to work on my Shoah project.
Sigh. I think I can do this.

katling and keieeeye, I thought of you, ngl. I'm actually getting a bit tired of this song, but Barrowman's pants, Riverdance-esque moves, and jazz hands at the end definitely made me smile.
Yesterday was a pretty slow day for writing as I was in class most of the day. I'm not sure yet what today will be like, but we shall see! I'm ahead on schoolwork that's due immediately and attempting to work on my comps reviews as I take them on TUESDAY. And instead I'm just staring at them like "what now?"

Yesterday, _kyri and I got news that we have a move-in date! So now I actually have a DATE I can use to count down to! We have an APARTMENT with a FIREPLACE and on JANUARY 9 I'll be in OHIO and SO DONE WITH TEXAS. IT WILL BE AMAZING.
I am so ready to be away from this place.
